Lawn Gown from England, c. 1890
Sweet, delicate, richly decorated gown from England. A snowy lawn cotton. Hand hand stitched with lavish details including tiny rows of double feather stitching, tiny hand stitched pintucks, alternating rows of insertion lace ad embroidery. Decoration on front of bodice is luxuriously continued on the back. Inside the gown, invisible from the outside, are two cotton ties that make the waist adjustable for a custom fit. The back closes with the six original thread-wrapped buttons and loop ties. As pictured, the edges of the bottons are slightly worn. It is unusual to have all original buttons, so they have been left on. If, however, you would like these replaced with newer buttons appropriate to the gown that can be done. Superb condition. Long at 44 inches, and adjustable waist 18 inches circumference. Cuffs at wrist are 4 inches circumference.
